I just love these little engines, the workhorses of the railway steam age.  This particular example Class J15 0-6-0 No 65462 is on loan from the M&GN Railway and a history of the engine can be found on the link.  A sole survivor of four that were originally stored for preservation. When the Gala started at 10.00 a.m.  No 65462 and the Peckett Saddle Tank 2000 were on duty hauling the passenger train shuttle.  This operation was suspended pending the arrival of an excursion train from the northeast of England and this clip shows a view of the yard with the J15 the last engine in the clip.
The excursion train, topped and tailed by two Class 47 diesels makes its way tentatively towards the Barrow Hill platform.  Steam from either Green Arrow or Mayflower drifts across to remind us that it was a 'Steam Gala!' Class K4 2-6-0 61994 'The Great Marquess' sits in the yard waiting for its share of the action.  Follow the link to the LNER website for more information on the engine.  The engine, privately owned by John Cameron, is based at Thornton in Fife.
Another LNER engine Mogul No 62005 'Lord of the Isles' likewise sits waiting for it turn in a share of the action.  This engine is owned by the North Eastern Locomotive Preservation Group and more information on the engine can be found on the link. 65462, partly obscured by smoke and steam from 'Mayflower', reverses down the yard to park up whilst the excursion train arrives.  The Barrow Hill Steam Gala was certainly well worth the trip.  It was great to see so many varieties of engines in steam.  Not to mention two B1's!
Left:  The two LNER Moguls 62005 'Lord of the Isles' and 61994 'The Great Marquess' pose for photo's in the Barrow Hill yard.  Apart from the B1's it's probably been sometime since these two were together.
