LNER No. 1306 'Mayflower' emerges slowly from the Roundhouse where it had gone back in to pose with 61264.  Then after delicately the Roundhouse to the great satisfaction of all around the driver opened the cylinder steam cocks.  We were then all well enveloped in a cloud of steam which severely restricted videoing and smelt wonderful!  There are some excellent black and white photo's of the engine on the Nene Valley Railway web site on the link. The video clip starts with the Peckett 0-6-0 saddle tank actually looking as if it's bustling along towards the station.  At the other end 'Green Arrow' looks like the height of serenity and coolness just drifting along and looking absolutely superb.  An interesting "Peckett's in Retrospect" web page can be found on the link.  More pictures and information on 4771 can be found at the 'York Steam' website.
It's early afternoon at Barrow Hill and B1 61264 has emerged from the roundhouse and sets off down the yard.  With the steam cocks open for our entertainment (and deafening!) the B1, with a hint of slip moves down the yard the join the rest of its LNER sisters.  The official web site for the engine is on Thompson B1 Locomotive Trust web site on the link 'Green Arrow' poses for photographers at the bottom of the embankment, where every can get an excellent overview of the yard.  All in all it was an excellent day out.  Would I go back again?  Definately!  I think my relatives in Yorkshire may start having me visit a bit more often.
An overview of the yard, 'Blue Peter' to the fore and the roundhouse in the background slightly obscured by the smoke from the engines.  Just how it should be! Still living where it was based in its BR days, 41708 sits on its own looking a little forlorn.  However it has been travelling about a bit and this information can be found on the 1708 Locomotive Preservation Trust web site
Stainiers Jubilee Class 4-6-0 'Kholapur' sits on display for our enjoyment.  I saw a lot of Jubilees in my trainspotting days.  I must admit, I never thought that I wished I could see 45667 Jellicoe again.  Not after what seems like watching it pass Irchester twice a day on Nottingham and Derby expresses for years!  Needless to say with a desperate desire to see one I hadn't 'spotted' before! A nice shiny 20 Class the original, No D8000.  These engines also used to pass Irchester mid evening on one of the few named freight trains.  This was the London to Glasgow 'Condor'.  The train was an attempt by BR to win back some of the freight which had deserted them in favour of road transport.  I seem to remember an advertising slogan - 'Door to Door by Condor'.  More information is available at NRM web site on this link.
