The above video was the first ICE (Inter Continental Express) train I had seen.  I know I am at steam railway man at heart but, wow! was this an impressive sight, or was this an impressive site!  Interlaken East is the end of the ICE train network in Switzerland.  From there the ICE trains travel to Basel (the Swiss spelling) or Zurich before travelling going on to Germany.  The front end unit of this train was number 401 090 6 for those of you who want to know.  It also had manufactures names on it which read like an engineering who's who.  For example AEG, Siemens and Krupp to name but three. The above video is a BLS 'Golden Pass' train passing through Interlaken West on its way to its next stop Interlaken East, where it was due to arrive at 16.35.  The 'Golden Pass' trains run between Geneva and Zurich. For a map of Switzerland's railways click this link.
I never ceased to be surprised at seeing a typical UK style railcar set come scooting along only to see a locomotive at the other end.  It seems the Swiss are well in to 'push and pull'!

The BLS train arrives and departs for Interlaken East.  No doubt about it Interlaken was a busy station for a railway enthusiast.  I also understand that by the colour of the engine you could tell the horsepower an it indicated the class and age of the locomotive.  For example my source of information indicated that the red express engines were 8000 hp, blue 9000 hp, and the green loco's were the oldest and produced 10,000 hp.  For more and information, and  pictures of BLS click on the link.  As the BSL 'Golden Pass' train continues on its merry way through Interlaken West to the east station, can't quite work out from the video whether that is a red or brown colour loco,  Anyway coming the other way is another very impressive ICE trains arriving to pick up passengers.  This is the 16.30 stopping at Spiez, Thun, Berne, Olten and teminating at Basel at 18.33.  The trains I have videod are not the latest, according to information available at Wikipedia .  Click the Wikipedia link and look at the 3rd generation of ICE trains.  Even more impressive looking!
