| GWR 2-8-0 3850 departs, tender first, with the last train of the day the 16.00 train Bishops Lydeard. This engine and 'Dinmore Manor' both feature on the same website so more information about 3850 can be found on this link. The engine was apparently built in the 1940's to a design by G J Churchward which remained "virtually unchanged for 40 years". Follow the link for more information on G J Churchward. | The Somerset and Dorset railway is but a distant memory but, fortunately, its legacy, in the form of 7F 2-8-0 engine number 53808 lives on. It also looks magnificent in its original S & D JR livery of "Prussian Blue". For more information on the engine and the 20th anniversary of its return to steam visit the 'West Somerset Railway Latest News' link. When the site is updated follow the 'Archived News Items' at the bottom of the page. | ||
| When I went down to Minehead Station on the day I arrived at Minehead I met a fellow enthusiast. He told me he had visited the station as he had heard a rumour that a 'King' was about somewhere in the area. Wow! Can't remember the last time I saw a King, it's so long ago. Anyway, as you can see it duly appeared in the form of 6024 King Edward I. Click the link for more information on the engine. For a comprehensive website of all things GWR please have a look at this link | After all these wonderful steam engines I'm a little lost for words at the sight of a DMU! But lets not knock it folks - it helps raise revenue that keeps those lovely steam engines going! For DMU enthusiasts this set is made up of units nos. W51880 + 59506 + 51859. For more information about the DMU's you can follow this link to the 'unofficial' West Somerset Railway. | ||

| The wee blue tank engine parked at the Esplanade end of Minehead station is no doubt waiting for its moment of glory at the 'Days Out With Thomas' weekend on the 7th and 8th July. | Another view of S & D J R engine No 88. This is another engine originally designed for heavy freight work which, even in its BR days found work on passenger duties. This happening was particularly prevalent during the 1950's holiday periods apparently. | ||
