I was aware of this years 'Land Cruise' from the tour list that
Pathfinder Tours.
sent me. Originally it stated that the 50 class diesels would be the motive
power again for the trip. Not much point in dashing off and filming the
same thing again thinks I. Then some idle browsing discovered the
information that the engines would be EWS 374XX's. And could I resist the
temptation to video the different engines? Certainly not! The
starting timings were very similar, but the change of engines south of Glasgow
must have caused it to miss the 'path' it followed last year. Anyway it
came through Gleneagles roughly on time at 18.15 or thereabouts, and was travelling at a fair old rate, as
seen above. |
The Orcadian arrived in Perth at 16.30 give or take a minute or two and waited
for an Inverness bound Scotrail train to precede it. I did the same as
last year and went into Perth station to get some stills. I also thougth
it would be handy for all you enthusiasts out there, if I could at least tell
you the engine numbers. They were 37410 in the lead and 37406. The
rake of coaches they were pulling also looked far more impressive than last year
being what looked like the same coaching stock as 'The Great Britain'. I
also have no doubt that these engines at least had the same number on each side
unlike the 50XXX's last year! The Orcadian 2006 has been archived and is
available on this link. |
